Abrasive cleaners are ones that include some sort of grain or medium that acts as a scrubbing agent like Ajax, Comet, Borax etc. Even a homemade cleaner such as mixing baking soda with salt would be considered abrasive. What the concern is with these types of cleaners is that that medium can actually get clogged in between the diamond and reduce the effectiveness of the sharpener. While a brush does “abrade” the surface it does not leave behind anything, the bristles say attached to the brush. The best non-abrasive cleaner would be a little bit of dish soap and water. You can either mix a little up in a spray bottle or just dab a small amount on the surface. Make sure to dry thoroughly after cleaning.
